Meet Our Principal, Kimberly Guillen

Principal Kimberly Guillen is an accomplished educational leader dedicated to cultivating academic excellence, student growth, and strong school communities. Guided by a deep expertise in child development and instructional leadership, Mrs. Guillen leads with a student-centered vision that empowers both teachers and learners to reach their fullest potential.

A local product of Chula Vista and a Bonita Vista High School graduate, Mrs. Guillen began her teaching journey in the Long Beach Unified School District, guiding Pre-K, 2nd, and 3rd-grade classrooms. In 2001, she brought her passion for teaching to the Carlsbad Unified family as an elementary educator at Aviara Oaks Elementary.

Her track record as an exceptional educator and strategic thinker led to expanded leadership roles across the district. In 2017, she was appointed as Carlsbad Unified’s Elementary Instructional Specialist and Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), where she mentored staff and spearheaded high-impact instructional initiatives. Demonstrating her versatile leadership, she also served as Interim Assistant Principal at Aviara Oaks Middle School before stepping into her role as Principal.

Mrs. Guillen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Long Beach. Deeply committed to student literacy and growth, she earned a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University and holds an Administrative Credential from the University of La Verne.

Outside of school, Mrs. Guillen lives in Oceanside with her husband and daughter. She loves staying active through running, hiking, traveling with her family, and cheering on her daughter at cross country and track meets. You can also often find her spending time with her adorable pug, Duke!
